The federal judge overseeing former President Donald J. Trump’s classified documents case on Thursday denied initial attempts by Mr. Trump’s two co-defendants to have the charges against them dismissed. The ruling by the judge, Aileen M. Cannon, was the first time she had rejected dismissal motions by the two men, Walt Nauta and Carlos De Oliveira, both of whom work for Mr. Trump at Mar-a-Lago, his private club and residence in Florida. The men have also been charged with lying to investigators working on the case. One threat against a witness has prompted a federal investigation, the special counsel’s office wrote in court filings. Possible witnesses against Trump are “routinely” being threatened in a way that could intimidate them from participating in the case, they added. The oil producers group known as OPEC Plus met on Thursday and failed to announce new production cuts in the face of sagging prices, but Saudi Arabia later said that it would continue to trim output by one million barrels a day through March, in coordination with some other countries that were not named. Oil traders, who may have expected more substantial cuts, had a chilly response to the news. Futures fell for the day, with Brent crude down 0.4 percent, to $82.80 a barrel, and West Texas Intermediate falling more than 3 percent, to $75.25. News reports of production cuts preceded the meeting. OPEC Plus said that Brazil, an oil giant that until now has not been part of the producers group, was expected to join next year.
